Past and Present Projects

Combined Effects of Carica papaya Seeds with Albendazole on Adult Pheritima posthuma
The project was conducted at the National Animal Disease Diagnostics and Epidemiology Center (NADDEC), Uganda, from June 2019 to August 2019. Overall sponsorship equivalent to $1,000 was given by NADDEC. The project was supervised by Dr. Okella Hedmon (Senior lecturer at Mbarara University of Science and Technology MUST). The East Africa Science Journal made a publication on the project in April 2020.

Preliminary In Vivo Evidence of Oral Selenium Supplementation as a Potentiating Agent on a Vector-Based COVID-19 Vaccine in BALB/c Mice
The project was carried out at the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) from April 2022 to December 2022. The African Union provided funding of $5,600 through the Pan African University Institute for Basic Sciences, Technology and Innovation (PAUSTI). The project was supervised by Dr. James Kimotho (Head of Innovation and Technology Transfer – KEMRI), Dr. Josephine Kimani (Senior lecturer at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology – JKUAT), and Professor Johnson Kinyua (Dean School of Biomedical Sciences – JKUAT).

The Role of Indigenous Herbal Formulations in Building Pan-demic-Ready Health Systems: An Overview of Zambia
The project is ongoing. So far, promising observations have been made, and these will form the basis for further investigations into the use of indigenous herbal formulations as a national strategy for the formation of a pandemic-ready health system in Zambia and other African countries.
